The Cost of Things

I can remember as a high school senior in 1989 seeing $1.10 a gallon gas thinking, "it will never be this low again." And I was right. I had no idea how the cost of things that we use every day would dramatically go up.

Ever since I was much younger and Dad brought pop (Pepsi) home, I have mentally kept track of the cost of pop. .89 for a 2-liter was a good price. Then it went to $1. Then $1.50. Then $2! Now, 2-liters of pop are between $3 and $3.69!!!! Come on!

Fast food combo meals used to be $2.99. That's long gone. Most are between $8 and $10.

Haircuts used to be $10. Now $20.

I don't know when body wash became a thing. But when I started buying it, $3 was a regular price for a standard size (24 ounces) bottle. 24 ounces now runs $7.

My salary has gone up since I was a lot younger obviously but it hasn't kept up with the cost of things.
